Q

“T t w t J G, o W E, L I, s f h P c o h”

A

“The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island,
sprang from his Platonic conception of himself”

Nick notes how artificially Gatsby has created his personality and identity. The allusion to Plato implies how he argued that truth is separate from reality. Gatsby’s idea of himself as someone “great” did not match the truth of his reality. Instead, he ended up miserable and dissatisfied with his life.

A

I’ll be here waiting and hoping for every long dream of you to come true.”

Daisy infers to Gatsby that she is ready and wants to leave her Tom to rekindle/pursue a relationship with Gatsby. This turned out to be a hollow and false promise which resulted in death for Gatsby and the diminishment of his hope in achieving his American Dream by gaining an immense amount of wealth to win Daisy back. (materialistic values/virtues)
