Gravitational Fields Flashcards
Define newtons law of gravitation
Any two point masses will attract each other with a force that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them
What happens to the strength of the gravitational field at larger distance
At a larger distance field lines will cover a larger area so the strength of the field will become weaker
Define gravitational field strength
The gravitational field strength is the force per unit of mass
What is equation for speed of orbit
V^2 =GM/r
What is keplers third law
T^2 proportional to r^3
State a feature and use of a geostationary satellite
Has an orbital period of 24h and is used for television broadcasting
What do field lines show on gravitational fields
The arrows indicate direction of the field
The spacing between the field lines represents the strength of the gravitational field
