Graphs Flashcards
what is speed?
Speed is how fast an object is going with no regard to direction
what is velocity?
Velocity is both the speed and direction
how do you calculate speed?
Speed = Distance divided by Time
what does the gradient on a distance time graph show?
How fast the object is travelling , this is because the gradient is the change in distance divided by the change in time
what does the flat section in a distance time graph show?
Flat sections are where its stationary - its stopped
what does a steepening and levelling off curve mean in a distance time graph?
A steepening curve means its accelerating and levelling off curve means it is decelerating
what is acceleration?
Acceleration is how quickly the velocity is changing, this can be a change in speed, a change in direction or both
how do you calculate acceleration?
Acceleration = Change in velocity divided by Time taken
on a velocity time graph what do the flat section show?
The flat section represents steady speed
on a velocity time graph what do the uphill sections show?
The uphill sections represent acceleration
on a velocity time graph what do the downhill sections show?
The downhill sections represent deceleration
on a velocity time graph what does a curve mean?
A curve means changing acceleration
