graphical representations Flashcards
1
Q
Drawing a graph (6m)
A
- correctly identify which graph you should draw
- plot the correct data
- give the graph a title
- label the axis appropriately (operationalise)
- have an appropriate scale on y axis
- bar chart: make sure bars are not touching
- histogram: make sure bars touch
- scattergraph: make sure plot every score
2
Q
Bar charts
A
- display discrete/categorical data
- compare conditions
- use when data is divided into categories (as words)
- categories = x axis
- frequency/amount = y axis
- bars NEVER touch each other or y axis shows we are dealing with separate data
3
Q
Histograms
A
- display continuous data
- data where each ppt has an individual score
- represent frequencies
- scores with equal sized intervals = x axis
- frequency of ppt within the intervals = y axis
- if it is zero frequency interval should remain without a bar
- bars ALWAYS touch to show data is continuous
- equal width in bars
4
Q
Scattergraphs
A
- display a relationship between two co-variables
- represent correlations
- each plot on the graph represents 1 ppt but 2 scores
- one co-variable = x axis
- other co-variable = y axis
- does not matter which way around
- do not have to draw line of best fit
