Graphical Representation Flashcards
What is a frequency table
A chart/table that shows the rate of occurrence frequency for a number of measured values/categories
What is a line graph
A graph that shows a linear representation of frequencies of data
Commonly used to show changes over time
What is a bar chart
A diagram showing frequencies of non-continuous data in discrete categories can be put into a bar chart
Bars do not touch each other
What is a histogram
Diagrams that represent the distribution of frequencies for continuous data, data is measured on the y-axis by frequency density
Each bar touches the next
What is a pie chart
Diagrams which represent data proportionately, pie charts help us to visually compare what proportion of the overall results fall into each discrete category
What are scatter diagrams
A diagram that represents a relationship/correlation between two or more co-variables, the steepness of the line/trend determine the strength of the relationship/correlation
Steep=strong correlation, flat=weak correlation
What is a distribution curve
A linear representation of data including a mean, median and modal score to show a spread of data
What is a positive skew
Data shifts to the left
- the mode is lower than the median which is lower than the mean
What is a negative skew
Data shifts to the right
- the mode is higher than the median which is higher than the mean
