Bar Charts:

A
  • bars should never touch bc they are discreet
  • bars and gaps should be same width
  • used for catagorical variables
  • used for independant catagory

Histogram:

A
  • used for continous data (one variable)
  • divided in BINS (fixed intervals the data is split into)
  • x axis = numerical data groupings
  • y axis = frequency
  • bars from each catagory should touch because they are continous
  • width is the same

Line Graphs:

A
  • used for ordinal/interval data (numerical)
  • used for continous data
  • x axis = numerical data groupings in equal sized intervals
  • y axis = frequency / scores etc
  • a continous line should connect up all the data points

Scatter Graphs/ Scattergrams:

A
  • used for correlations
  • used for correlational data
  • data from two co-variables on each axis are obtained for each ppt and plotted as a point/cross
  • a line of best fit may be drawn which has an equal number of points on each side
  • can show: - direction of correlation (positive/negative) + strength of correlation (no/weak/moderate/strong)
  • do not include ppt number
  • use central tendency terms in axis and title
