Graphical Representation Flashcards
1
Q
What do you get marks for when drawing graphs:
A
1) Title - operationalised variables and units if applicable
1)1) Labelling the acis - operationalised and units if applicable
1) accurate plotting
+ scale needs to make sense
2
Q
Bar Charts:
A
- bars should never touch bc they are discreet
- bars and gaps should be same width
- used for catagorical variables
- used for independant catagory
3
Q
Histogram:
A
- used for continous data (one variable)
- divided in BINS (fixed intervals the data is split into)
- x axis = numerical data groupings
- y axis = frequency
- bars from each catagory should touch because they are continous
- width is the same
4
Q
Line Graphs:
A
- used for ordinal/interval data (numerical)
- used for continous data
- x axis = numerical data groupings in equal sized intervals
- y axis = frequency / scores etc
- a continous line should connect up all the data points
5
Q
Scatter Graphs/ Scattergrams:
A
- used for correlations
- used for correlational data
- data from two co-variables on each axis are obtained for each ppt and plotted as a point/cross
- a line of best fit may be drawn which has an equal number of points on each side
- can show: - direction of correlation (positive/negative) + strength of correlation (no/weak/moderate/strong)
- do not include ppt number
- use central tendency terms in axis and title
