Q

What was the Schlieffen Plan?

A

Named after the German general , Alfered Von Schlieffen. Germany knew that they would have to fight both France and Russia. So they desired to conquer France first by invading Belgium. they fought France in the front with a mini group and retreated later. Then the Germans raided through Belgium in order to counter-attack France and trap them but failed because the French were quick to react and stopped the German army on the River Marne in France
They built a trench along Europe through eh corner of Belgium and across France and Switzerland. By 1914 Christmas the war was put to a halt because neither side was able to win.
