Main causes of WW1 Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism, Alliances

A

Militarism: The structure of a military force in/to protect and prevent innovation It contributed to the war by leading to advancements in technology and weapons. Having a strong army raised chances of success

Alliances: An agreement between 2 or more parties for a beneficial purpose. It contributed to the war because of the main alliances
(Tripple Entente; Britain,France, Russia)(Tripple Allience; Itally , Germany,Austria/hungary)

Imperialism: Influencing one power through other countries by political and economic control. it contributed to the war by the British were able to control more than 25% of world territory & manufacturing goods to homelands and colines giving European countries economic power

Nationalism: A set of beliefs that promote a nation’s collective interests and cultural identity. it contributed to war because most of their countries wanted their own independence, identity crisis led to assassinations, their differences led them to disagreements and war

Nationalism #1: - the great European powers were expressing their sense of nationalism by racing to have the largest armies/navy by conquering overseas and becoming more economically powerful. they were enhancing the glory and pride for the homeland

Nationalism #2:
- Small ethnic groups living within larger empires expressed their sense of nationalism by seeking independence from their ruling nations.
E.G groups dislike being under austria-hungarian control

In Both cases:
-Tension and mistrust were heightened in Europe and feelings of nationalism were so powerful that extremists were willing to go to war for their causes
