Court household (HVII)

A

Different levels to to the course : household proper looked after king, the courtiers + guests
Chamber - had different household officials
Lord chamberlain - Stanley - had been a traitor so Henry challenged this model by creating a privy chamber where Henry had protection

Parliament + justice

A

Only held 7 parliaments in his reign, 5 in first 10 years (whilst consolidating power?)
Private acts for local demands for improvements

Relied on nobility to exercise power
Number of magnates (nobles )had been reduced so less resources - solved this by releasing Earl of Surrey
- spying network and bonds and recognisances (penalty for not doing tasks)- showed he has little trust

JPS responsible for alrhohse regulation, tax assessments, investigating complaints

Improved justice system
Church, local, borough, manor (landholding), county (JPS), common law, chancery courts

CL Increased from 12,000 (Henry was inexperienced? Reverted to E’s methods through royal household) to 42,000

Customs revenue: tonnage and poundage had been granted for life by Henry’s first parliament. Around 34,000

Raised 400000 from extraordinary revenue

Bonds - around 200000 owed not all collecte cams
