primary
what is primary gout?
Results from one of several inborn errors of purine metabolism ( increase uric acid)
- Production of uric acid > excretion of uric acid
- May be inherited
- Peak onset is from 40 -50
what is secondary gout?
- Hyperuricemia from another disease or problem
- Does not discriminate on the basis of age
3 stages of gout
- Asymptomatic hyperuricemia
- Acute gouty arthritis
- Chronic/ tophaceous gout
