Goniometry: Hip Flashcards
Hip Flexion: What are you first going to tell patient?
To lay in supine position, lay on back with your stomach facing to the ceiling.
Hip flexion: Position
For the actual measurement of flexion, the other limb should be kept straight.
hip flexion: Stabilisation
pelvis remains flat and symmetrical by body position
Hip flexion: axis
lateral aspect of the greater trochanter of the femur.
Hip flexion: Stationary arm
parallel to the long axis of the trunk, in line with the greater trochanter of the femur
Hip Flexion: Moving Arm
placed along the lateral midline of the femur toward the lateral epicondyle
Hip Flexion: Normal Range
flex 0 -115 (soft tissue apposition or tension of the muscles)
Hip Flexion: Precautions
allow the knee to flex.
to prevent a stretch on the hamstring muscles; avoid lumbosacral movement
Hip Extension: Position
Prone
with a pillow under the abdomen to flatten the lumber spine
Hip Extension: Measurement
for flexion
Hip Extension: Normal Range
0-30
Hip Extension: Precaution
keep the knee extended to avoid a stretch on the rectus femoris muscle
avoid anterior pelvic tilt.
Hip Abduction: Position
Supine position
legs in neutral position
ensure that the pelvis is level
Hip Abduction: Stabilization
the pelvis by placing. the opposite leg in abduction
Hip abduction: axis
ASIS on the side of the hip joint being measured
Hip Abduction: stationary arm
parallel to the long axis of the trunk.
Hip Abduction: Moving Arm
Parallel to the midline of the femur, toward the midline of the patella
Hip abduction: Normal Range
0-50
Hip Abduction: Precautions
Prevent lateral rotation of the hip prevent lateral tilt of the pelvis
Hip Adduction: Position
supine of legs in neutral position
ensure that pelvis neutral
opposite is placed in abduction
Hip adduction: Normal range
0-30
hip adduction: precautions
prevent medial rotation of the hip joint
prevent tilt of the pelvis
Hip Medial and Lateral : Postion
sitting with hips flexed to 90°
knee flexed over the edge of the bed. The non test hip is abducted and the foot is supported by a stool. Prone with abdomen on small pillow and hip joints in anatomical position with knee flexed to 90
Hip Medial and Lateral : Position
sitting with hips flexed to 90°
knee flexed over the edge of the bed. The non test hip is abducted and the foot is supported by a stool. Prone with abdomen on small pillow and hip joints in anatomical position with knee flexed to 90
Hip medial and Lateral: Stabilisation
thigh remains supported by the table
Hip medial and lateral: axis
anterior mid-patella
Hip medial and lateral: stationary arm
maintained in vertical position
Hip medial and lateral: normal range
Medial rotation 40° (ligaments)
Lateral rotation 45
Hip medial and Lateral: Precautions
avoid lateral tilting of the pelvis
prevent the pelvis from lifting off the table
prevent trunk flexion
prevent adduction at the hip joint.
