Gonadal Sex, Ducts, External Genitalia Flashcards
Ovarian Development
XX cells in genital ridge secrete retinoic acid that causes PCGs to enter meiosis
XX cells secrete:
RSPO1 and FOXL2
Which duct develops in males?
Wolffian duct
Which duct develops in females?
Mullerian duct
What are the two secretion that cause male ductwork?
Androgens and anti-mullerian hormone
How do Leydig cells effect the Wolffian ducts?
Leydig cells produce testosterone which is responsible for the development of the Wolffian ducts
What are the androgens?
Testosterone
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
What are the estrogens?
Estradiol
Estriol
Estrone
What does the Tfm locus do and where is it located?
Located on the X chromosome; puts testosterone receptors on the Wolffian duct
How does DHT effect external genitalia?
If DHT is present, it will cause male external genitalia to develop
