What does the SMART principle stand for?
SMART
- Specific
- Measurable

What does Specific mean (SMART)?
Specific - Must be clear and link to a specific task/skill
What does Measurable mean (SMART)?
Measurable - Goals must be able to be measured so that the can see if they have achieved it
What does Achievable mean (SMART)?
Achievable - Goals must be challenging but within the performer’s ability
What does Recorded mean (SMART)?
Recorded - Write it down by keeping a log or training diary
What does Timed mean (SMART)?
Timed - Goals must have a time frame of when it will be achievable
What are the two Types of Goals?

- Performance Goal
- Outcome Goal
What is a Performance Goal?
Performance Goal - Individual will compare performance to their previous performances
What is an Outcome Goal?
Outcome Goal - Focus on results of a particular event
Why are goals set?
Goals are set to:
- Motivate the performer
- Ensure they adhere (go) to training
- Improve/Optimise performance
- Monitor progress
- Controls stress/anxiety
