Characteristics of a Skilful Movement Flashcards
What does P-FACE stand for?
P - Predetermined
F - Fluent
A - Aesthetic
C - Coordinated
E - Efficiency
What does Predetermined mean in terms of P-FACE?
Predetermined - The result is intended, the performer has a clear objective or goal
What does Fluent mean in terms of P-FACE?
Fluent - The movement is smooth and flowing
What does Aesthetic mean in terms of P-FACE?
Aesthetic - The movement looks good, it is pleasing to the eye
What does Coordinated mean in terms of P-FACE?
Coordinated - The performer uses different body parts together effectively

Define Motor Skill
Motor Skill - An action or task with a target requiring voluntary limb and/or body movements to achieve a goal
What are motor/movement skills?
A motor or movement skill is a learned movement response. An action or task that has an end goal, requiring voluntary limb movement
Define the Difficulty Continuum
Difficulty Continuum - Linked to the amount of judgements/decisions that are made in order to perform the skill successfully. (Simple –> Complex)
Define the Environmental Continuum
Environmental Continuum - The execution of a skill can be affected by the surface, weather, opponent, or situation
What are the two things that make up Skill Classification?
Skill Classification is made up of:
- Difficulty Continuum
- Environmental Continuum
What are the two spectrums in the Difficulty Continuum?
Difficulty Continuum
- Simple Skill
- Complex Skill
What is a Simple Skill?
Simple Skill - The performer does not have to make many decisions or process as much information when performing the skill
- Little amount of subroutines (parts)
- No feedback during performance
What is a Complex Skill?
Complex Skill - The performer has to process lots of information and make lots of decisions in order for performance to be successful
- Many subroutines (parts)
- Feedback will often be given/required when performing the skill
What are the two spectrums on the Environmental Continuum?
Environmental Continuum
- Open Skills
- Closed Skills
