The Office of the Sheriff is divided organizationally by function into six primary parts.
These parts are the:
- Administration
- Department of Patrol and Enforcement
- Department of Investigations and Homeland Security
- Department of Police Services
- Department of Personnel and Professional Standards
- Department of Corrections
These components are differentiated by function and are defined within this Order.
Each organizational component is under the direct command of only one_______.

Commanders, the following organizational components report directly to the Sheriff and/or Undersheriff:

Integrity/Special Investigations Unit
Internal Audit Unit
The legal staff responsible for advising the Sheriff, Undersheriff, and all Sheriff’s Office personnel on matters of criminal law and acting as a liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the legal community.
Legal Unit
Acts as a liaison between the agency and the media to provide accounts of police activities and offer statements on general department matters. Responds to requests for information by external parties other than the news media.
Public Information Unit
Conducts proactive criminal and administrative investigations of employees within the Sheriff’s Office. The objective is to produce an omnipresence that will create an environment of voluntary compliance with the written directives. The unit also conducts investigations into criminal intelligence based allegations.
Integrity/Special Investigations Unit
Reviews the reliability and integrity of financial and operating information; reviews policies and procedures having significant impact on operations to determine compliance; reviews the adequacy of
internal controls; and, appraises the economy and efficiency with which resources are employed.
Internal Audit Unit
The Department of Patrol and Enforcement is responsible for carrying out the primary police functions of responding to _______, __________, _________, community relations activities, and related areas.

Definition of Patrol Division:
Responsible for performing the emergency line function of
the Office of the Sheriff, which includes the enforcement of all laws and local ordinances enacted for the preservation of peace and protection of life and property, and partitioned into _______ Division and _______ Division each with three geographical zones. Patrol Zones are geographical subdivisions of Duval County established for an efficient and uniform patrol response to the law enforcement needs of Duval County. Each zone is

Field Training Unit (FTO)

Sheriff’s Office by riding as a second officer on patrol, assisting with traffic control at special events, and performing other law enforcement duties suitable to their level of training.
Police Reserve Unit
_______-The Unit is the repository for information within the city, encompassing adult and juvenile sexual offenders/predators. Their responsibilities include tracking and verifying sexual offenders/predators that reside, work or attend school in Duval County, conducting proactive multi-agency operations throughout the year to help ensure compliance with the sexual offender/predator requirements and providing the community with public information on registered sexual offenders/predators.
Offender Tracking Unit (OTU)
______-Responsible for interviewing and photographing
felons after being released from incarceration or ordered by the court.
