Glycosylated Haemoglobin Flashcards
How often should HbA1C be checked?
Every 3-6 months until stable and then every 6 months
Over what kind of window of time/time period does the HbA1C reflect?
Typically: a 3 month period
BUT recent evidence shows it reflects the last 2-4 weeks.
How do you calculate the average plasma glucose from %HbA1C?
( 2 x % ) - 4.5
(e.g. HbA1c = 5%)
THEREFORE (2 x 5) - 4.5 = 5.5mmol/l is the average plasma glucose.
What is the IFCC-HbA1c equivalent for an HbA1C of 6%?
42 mmol/mol
(Just subtract 2 from the % and you are in the approximate ballpark e.g. 6-2 = 4)
What is the IFCC-HbA1c equivalent for an HbA1C of 7%?
53 mmol/mol
What is the IFCC-HbA1c equivalent for an HbA1C of 8%?
64mmol/mol
What is the IFCC-HbA1c equivalent for an HbA1C of 9%?
75 mmol/mol
