What are the indications for use
A
- Tx gram +ve infections (endocarditis, MRSA, allergy)
- Tx Abx ass colitis (C. diff)

What is the mechanism of action
A
- Inhibits growth + cross linking of peptidoglycan chains
- Inhibit synthesis of cell wall of gram +ve bacteria

What are the side effects
A
- Thrombophlebitis
- Red man syndrome
- Hypersensitivity
- Nephrotoxicity
- Ototoxicity
- Blood disorders (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia)

What are the contra-indications
A
- Dose reduction in elderly + renal impairment

What are the interactions
A
- Aminogycosides
- Loop diuretics
- Ciclosporin
- tacrolimus (inc risk ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity)
- GA –> Hypersensitivity like reactions
