What are Glyburide’s indications?
Type 2 diabetes mellitus, adjunct to diet and exercise, noninsuling dependent (NIDDM)
What is Glyburide’s usual adult dose?
Initial dose: 1.25-5mg once daily
Maintenance: 1.25-20mg/day given as single or divided doses
MAX: 20mg/day
Micronized initial: 1.5-3mg daily, maintenance .75-12mg/day
MAX: 12 mg/day
What are Glyburide’s common side effects?
hypoglycemia, GI (heartburn, nausea), photosensitivity
What are Glyburide’s monitoring parameters?
Fasting blood glucose, urine glucose
HbA1c
Signs/symptoms of hypoglycemia
What are Glyburide’s available dosage forms?
Oral tablet: 1.25mg, 2.5mg, 5mg
Oral micronized tablet: 1.5mg, 3mg, 6mg
What are Glyburide’s counseling points?
Monitor for signs of hyper or hypoglycemia
Take at the same time each day (usually with breakfast)
Caution of alc consumption
Caution in patients with severe sulfonamide allergy
