Gluteal Region Quiz questions Flashcards
What
- supplies anterior thigh muscles
- hip and knee joints and
- skin on anterior medial side of thigh
Femoral nerve
what divides into
- anterior branch descends between adductor longus ands adductor brvis
- adductor longus
- add brevis
- gracilis
- pectinus
Posterior Br supplies:
- Posterior branch descends between adductor brevis and adductor magnus
- obturator externus
- A Magnus
Obturator nerve
What Innervates hamstrings by its tibial division, except for a short head of biceps femoris, which is innervated by its common fibular division; provides articular branches to hip and knee joints
Sciatic nerve
What Supplies posterior muscles of leg and knee joint
Tibial
What supplies skin on lateral part of posterior aspect of leg via its branch, the lateral sural cutaneous nerve ; also supplies knee joint via its articular branch
Common fibula Nerve
What supplies anterior and anteromedial surfaces of thigh
Femoral artery
What Divides into anterior branch to supply
- obturator externus
- pectineus a
- dductors of thigh
- gracilis
and Post Br supply:
- muscles att to ischial tuberosity
Obturator Artery
What divides into anterior and posterior tibial arteries
With, Superior, Middle and inferior genicular arteries to both lateral and medial aspects of knee.
Popliteal artery
What divides into medial and lateral plantar arteries, supplying
- posterior and lateral compartments of leg
- circumflex fibular branch joins anastomoses around knee
- nutrient artery passes into tibia
Posterior Tibial Artery
What artery supplie the anterior compartment of leg?
Anterior Tibial
What artery distributes to :
- Posterior compartment of leg;
- perforating branches supply lateral compartment of leg
Fibular artery
What artery:
- Muscles on dorsum of foot;
- pierces first dorsal interosseous muscle as deep plantar artery to contribute to formation of plantar arch
Dorsalis Pedis Artery
What vein Continuous from popliteal vein proximal to the adductor hiatus
Femoral Vein
Union of the anterior and posterior tibial veins near lower border of popliteus muscle
Popliteal vein
Deep vein, cont. from lateral and medial plantar veins
Posterior Tibial Vein
Deep vein, Cont from dorsalis pedis
Anterior Tibial
Formed by the union of the dorsal vein of the great toe and the dorsal venous arch of the foot
Great Saphenous
Arises on lateral side of the foot from the union of the doral vein of the small (little) toe with the dorsal venous arch
Origin: Arises on lateral side of the foot from the union of the doral vein of the small (little) toe with the dorsal venous arch
- – Ascends posterior to the lateral malleolus as a continuation of the lateral marginal vein
- – Passes along the lateral border of the calcaneal tendon
- – Inclines to the midline of the fibula and penetrates the deep fascia
- – Ascends between the heads of the gastrocnemius muscle
- – Empties into the popliteal vein in the popliteal fossa
Continues from femoral vein arising when the femoral artery crosses into the inguinal ligament
Ext Iliac Vein
1.It is formed near the greater sciatic
foramen (vein)
Internal Iliac
1.Origin: It is formed near the greater sciatic
foramen,
2.ascending anteriorly to the sacroiliac joint, before combining with the external iliac vein to form the common iliac vein.
Lies posteroinferior to the internal iliac artey
Dorsal digital veins receive tributaries from the plantar venous arch and join to form the common dorsal digital veins and terminate in dorsal venous arch
Veins of Foot
2 Neurovascular bundles :

- Origin: Sciatic Nerve
- Course: Forms as sciatic at apex of popliteal fossa; descends through popliteal fossa and lies on popliteus; rubs inferiorly on the tibialis posterior with the posterior tibial vessels; terminates beneath the flexor retinaculum by dividing into the medial and lateral plantar nerves
- Distribution: Supplies posterior muscles of leg and knee joint
Tibial Nerve
- Origin: Sciatic Nerve
- Course: Forms as sciatic bifurcates at apex of popliteal fossa and follows medial border of biceps femoris and its tendon; passes over posterior aspect of head of fibula and then winds around neck of fibula deep to fibularis longus, where it divides into deep and superficial fibular nerves
- Distribution: Supplies skin on lateral part of posterior aspect of leg via its branch, the lateral sural cutaneous nerve ; also supplies knee joint via its articular branch
Common Fibula
3 vascular bundles
