CNS Blood Supply Flashcards
What is the circle of willis.?
a cibfkuence of vessels that gives rise to all of major cerebral arteries
what supplies the circle of willis
supplies by the paired internal carotid arteries and basilar ateries
what does the circle of willis contains?
- paired posterior communicating artery
- unpaired anterior communicating artery
What will damage to anterior cerebral artery affect?
MOTOR:( PRECENTRAL GYRUS)= trunk
SENSORY (POSTCENTRAL GYRUS)= trunk and genitals
what will damage to middle cerebral artery affecr
tongue
face
hand
arm
What is included in the venous drainage of the brain and coverings?
- veins of brain itself
2/ dural venous sinuses - dura meningeal veins
- diploic veins between tables of the skuull
Where does the baronets (M, P,MB) receives the bulk of its supply?
from the vertebrobasilar system
what branch does not supply the brain stem and cerebrum
labrynthine branch
Posterior cerebral characteristic
has only small contribution, main target being posterior cerebral hemispheres
Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Arteries (AICA)
- originates near lower border of pons, just past union of vertebral arteries
- contribute to supply upper medullar and lower pontine areas
pontine arteries
numerous smaller branches
- supplies basal, lateral pons and pontine tegementum
superior cerebellar arteries
originate near end of basilar artery, close to pons- midbrain junction
- additional contribution to rostral pontine tegementum and midbrain
blood supply to the spinal cord
1. spinal arteries Anterior SA (1) and Post spinal Art (2) from vertebral artery
- segmental arteries- radicular arteries contributes spinal arteries from vertebral, ascending cervical, intercostal and lumbar artery venous drainage
- longitudinal and radicular veins: to intervertebral veins — to internal vertebral venous plexus to external vertebral venous plexus – to segmental veins
