Gluteal Muscles Flashcards
Distal attachment Gluteus Maximus
Forms thick tendinous layer which helps form the ITB
Deep fibres of lower part of muscle attach to gluteal tuberosity of femur
Proximal attachment Gluteus Maximus
Gluteal surface of ilium behind the gluteal line
Posterior border of ilium and adjacent iliac crest
Posterior aspect of sacrum and side of coccyx
Sacrotuberous ligament
Proximal attachment Gluteus Medius
Lateral (gluteal) surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines.
Extensive- from iliac crest above to sciatic notch below
Distal attachment Gluteus Medius
Roughened area on superolateral aspect of greater trochanter of femur. A bursa separates the tendon from the greater trochanter as it passes over to its attachment
Proximal attachment Gluteus Minimus
Gluteal surface of ilium anterior to anterior gluteal line and superior to inferior gluteal line. Reaches the anterior border of the ilium anteriorly and the sciatic notch posteriorly
Distal attachment Gluteus Minimus
Anterosuperior aspect of greater trochanter
Proximal attachment Tensor Fasciae Latae
Outer edge iliac crest between ASIS and iliac tubercle and gluteal surface just below it
Distal attachment Tensor Fasciae Latae
Between the two layers of the ITB below the level of the greater trochanter
Nerve supply Tensor Fasciae Latae
Superior Gluteal Nerve L4, L5
Nerve supply Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus
Superior Gluteal Nerve L4,L5,S1
Nerve supply Gluteus Maximus
Inferior Gluteal Nerve L5,S1,S2
