Glossary Of Terms III Flashcards
Centrifugal Switch
Switch on the motor shaft that opens or closes in relation to motor speed.
Impedance
Total opposition to current flow which is the summation of total actual resistance, capacitive reactance, and inductive reactance in an alternating current circuit.
Induced Voltage
Voltage produced in a circuit by the changes in number of magnetic lines of force that cut across a conductor
Inductance
Inherent property of an electrical circuit whereby energy is stored in a magnetic field
Inductive Reactance
Opposition to change of current that causes the out-of-phase condition of volts and amps
In Phase
Condition when sine waves values of like polarity peak in magnitude at the same time
In-Rush Amperes
Amps produced in the run winding when the motor is first energized and is four times greater than normal running amperage
Locked Rotor Amps (LRA)
The condition of current flow which occurs as In-Rush amps to start the rotor rotating from its locked position
Motor
Electrical device that converts electric energy to mechanical energy by magnetism to create a rotating motion to drive components of work
Out-of-Phase
Condition of alternating current when the magnitudes of sine waves of like polarity reach maximum values at different times
