Glossary Of Terms I Flashcards
Ampacity
The current capacity of an electrical circuit expressed in amperes
Armored Cable (BX Cable)
An indoor rated flexible electrical cable
Bus
An un-insulated conductor bar or wire
Circuit
An electrical wire installed which permits electrical flow from an energy source
Circuit Breaker
A switch which is opened automatically when the current exceeds or falls below a predetermined value.
Conduit
A circular, pipe like channel for holding and protecting conductors and cables, made of metal or an insulating material
Electro-Mechanical Tubing (EMT)
Thin walled galvanized conduit tubing using special connectors for electrical applications
Fused Disconnect
Single electrical enclosure switch containing a knife like switch blade and fuse for each hot leg of electrical service for the individual disconnect of equipment
Ground Fault
An electrical device in failure mode that resulted in an unintended contact from a current carrying wire to ground
Ground Wire
An electrical wire that will safely conduct electricity from a structure to ground
