ATS SURVEILLANCE SEPARATION

A

Spacing of aircraft in accordance with established minima, based on information derived from ATS surveillance

ex: Maintaining 1000 feet vertical separation between co-located PPSs, until 5 miles between the centres of the PPSs is achieved.

ATS SURVEILLANCE MONITORING

A

The use of ATS surveillance for providing aircraft with information and advice relative to significant deviations from their normal flight path.

ex: you notice an aircraft off course, you query the aircraft, and assist it back on course

IDENTIFICATION

A

The process of ascertaining that a particular PPS represents the location of a specific aircraft.

17
Q

MATS ACC > GLOSSARY

OMNI FACILITY

A

A very high frequency omnidirectional range (VOR), very high frequency omnidirectional range tactical air navigation aid (VORTAC), or tactical air navigation aid (TACAN) that provides azimuth information, expressed as radials in degrees from 000° to 359°

18
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

CRUISE CLIMB

A

A cruising technique resulting in a net increase in altitude as the aircraft mass decreases. A clearance or instruction to carry out a cruise climb allows the pilot the option of climbing at any given rate, as well as the option of levelling off at any intermediate altitude

19
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

POINT-OUT / POINT OUT

A

The process of transferring the identification of an aircraft to another sector or unit without transferring communications or control of the aircraft

20
Q

RECIPROCAL TRACK

A

In the application of separation, a term used to indicate tracks that converge or diverge at an angle of 136° to 180° inclusive

21
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

REDUCED VERTICAL SEPARATION MINIMUM (RVSM)

A

The application of 1000 ft vertical separation between RVSM aircraft in RVSM airspace

22
Q

STATE AIRCRAFT

A

Any aircraft used for military, customs, police or other law enforcement services of a state.

23
Q

VERTICAL NAVIGATION (VNAV)

A

An RNAV function that calculates, displays and provides guidance to maintain a vertical profile or path.

24
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

CONFLICT

A

… with respect to ATC service, the actual or predicted convergence of aircraft that violates one or more separation minima.

25
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

CROSSING TRACK

A

In the application of separation, a term used to indicate tracks that converge or diverge at an angle of 45° to 135° inclusive

26
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

POLAR ROUTE

A

A northbound or southbound route that enters or exits Canadian Domestic Airspace via designated Russian polar fixes located north of 75°N. Routes are defined as northbound when aircraft are flying a track of 315° clockwise to 045° and southbound when tracking 135° clockwise to 225°.

27
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

SAME TRACK

A

In the application of separation, expression used by ATC to indicate identical tracks or tracks that converge or diverge at an angle of 1° to 44° inclusive.

28
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

RNPC

A

Required Navigation Performance Capability

29
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

RNAV (AREA NAVIGATION)

A

A method of navigation that permits aircraft operation on any desired flight path within the coverage of ground- or space based NAVAIDs or within the limits of the capability of self-contained aids, or a combination of these.

30
Q

MATS ACC > Glossary

WAYPOINT

A

A specified geographical location, defined by longitude and latitude, that is used in the definition of routes and terminal segments and for progress reporting purposes
