Entrepreneur
Someone who has good ideas, business savvy and makes a success of various business ventures
Evaluate
To look and analyse something carefully and to then decide whether it is successful, worthwhile, valuable or not; to make an informed decision about it
Experimentation
To try out new things that you have not done before in order to gain experience ; to approach things differently or to discover new things
Exponential Growth
To grow through multiplication rather than simple addition so the rate of growth speeds up drastically over time
Focalisation
To make an area within a composition of greater importance by designing it so that it will stand out more and catch the viewer’s attention as well as hold their attention for longer
Font
A particular style of lettering, which will communicate a particular feeling or association
Form Follows Function
First used by the architect Louis Sullivan to express that an object’s form should enable it to function efficiently and appropriately
Free Flow ideas
A form of brainstorming where one idea will lead onto another idea; where logic and rationality do not control the ideas
Functional
When something is practical, useful and serves its purpose
Green design
Design that benefits, protects and sustains the natural environment through its use of materials, tools, processes and underlying values
Guilds
Small groups of designers and craftsmen that would work alongside each other to produce products generally of a high standards
Historicism
To focus one’s creative efforts to produce designs in styles from the past; to be traditional and conservative instead of original and innovative
Imagination
To create pictures in your mind of amazing, strange and exciting things that do not have to necessarily exist or be practical; to allow your brain to think freely
Industry
The production of goods from raw materials in factories
Interpret
To understand the meaning of something
Invention
A new discovery or product that revolutionises everyday life in some way; nothing like it has ever seen before
Investigate
To go in search of answers and information so that an informed decision can be made
Lateral Thinking
To approach things from a very different perspective; a way of problem solving coming up with original ideas that not many people would think of
Letterhead
A piece of paper onto which the business’ name, logo and contact details is printed, to be used to write or print official letters on.
Linear
A shape or form that is long and thin, which looks like a line
Lithography
A printing process using metal/stone plates to mass produce two dimensional designs
Logo
A small sign, image or symbol which is chosen and designed to visually represent an individual organisation or company.
Manufacture
To take a plan for an idea and process raw materials into the finished product in large quantities using machines, on order for it to be sold
Market
To promote or advertise a product so that people will buy it; the amount of trade in a product
