Abstraction
When something is non-representational, symbolic, simplified, imaginative and difficult to recognise
Amorphous
A shape or object that does not have a recognisable shape, abstracted
Analogous colours
Colours that are similar to each other, or next to each other on the colour wheel; to create a harmonious effect

Branding
To assign a name, particular feel, tone, mood, physical and emotional attributes to a product, company or service
To give an inanimate object a personality which is recognizable to the viewer or customer.
Budget
The amount of money allocated to a specific project / task within a specific time frame
Calligraphic
Describes a line, shape or form that looks like a form of writing
Client
A person/organization/ company that employs an individual or business to complete a task for them
Cold colour
A colour that has a lot of blue in it
Naturally recede backward in a composition
Somber, sad or depressed mood.
Collage
An artwork / design which is made from a collection of different coloured / textured paper or fabric
Colour scheme
The combination of colours that an artist 1 designer chooses to include within the artwork / design
Choice of colours → particular mood, atmosphere, symbolism
Complementary colours
Opposite each other on the colour wheel
Intensifies each other if placed next to each other
Composition
Arrangement or placement of elements within the format of the artwork /design
Compositional grid
Underlying set of horizontals vertical (and diagonal) lines which create a structure in which the compositional elements are placed.

Consumer
Has the potential to buy things / use services by spending their money
Contemporary
Happening at this present time, or occurring historically at the same time as something else.
Converging lines
Lines that move towards each other and meet at a point.
Creativity
Thinking beyond the boundaries of normality and what is expected → unpredictable and unexpected
Decoration
Add on something to make the object look more attractive and aesthetically pleasing
Delineated
Separated and clearly defined
Desaturated colour
Black has been added → colours purity & intensity has been diminished
Design brief
Document with a client explaining a problem which can be solved through the disciplines of design
Specifications the design must adhere to.
Design process
Stages through which a designer works in order to create an innovative,reterant, functional, creative design solution
Sufficient research → best idea → reflection -success!
Disciplines of design

Draughtsman
Person who draws
Equivocal space
Artist has deliberately chosen to emphasize positive and negative space so it is difficult to separate them
Expressive
To convey emotion / messages in a direct, obvious way → visual communication
Faux space
Fake surface applied on top of a cheap material to look expensive
Figurative
Line / form / shape that is recognizable
Focal point
Most important part of the picture where the viewers eye will be attracted to first-
Frontage
Rubbing of a literal texture so that a record of that texture is on the page
Generalisation
Exclude intricate and individual detail → basic characteristics.
Gestural
Line /image that records the movement of the artists hand
Flowing + organic
Glazes
Oil paint + unseen oil to create a translucent layer
Grid method
Draughtsman divides an image into blocks of equal size and draws a grid on the formal where the drawing is to be done
