Surveys meauring behaviours towards their own culture and the global culture
—> psychological adjustments using survey instruments
Results: in all four countries, a greater identification was associated with fewer psychological symptoms and there was less identity distress.
Conclusion: global identity was modified —> new categories of global identity were developped

globally assimilated
encapsulated locally
allienated

Limitation: questionnable external validity of survey instruments
Westerns concepts may not apply to China
Lyons-Padilla et al (2015)
investigated the extent to which significant loss could cause radicalization
260 first and second generation muslim immigrants in the USA between 18-25 were tested in a correlational study
Result 1: strong negative correlation between integration/acculturation and significant loss—> the more integraded the less likely to feel significant loss
Result 2: positive correlation between marginalization and significant loss—> marginalized=more likely to experience significant loss
Conclusion: there is a risk factors for muslim immigrants to become radicalized
Additional result: No correlation with radical interpretations or support for fundamentalist groups—> significant loss made tham more lilely to act that way
Ogihura and Uchira (2014)
how change in value influences subjective well being
114 subject (Japan and wisconsin)

Measured:
Individualism
how many close friends

Results:
higher individualism=less happiness
inability to make friends is the source of lack of happiness in individualistic cultures
- correlation was not found in USA
