-Now compete on a global scale not only local/national competition
-Edu policies now influenced by successful global policies
-Many edu companies foreign owned eg Edexcel-US who privatise and export policies for sale abroad. Means nation-states become less important in policy making

-Ranks countries on English/math test results
-NR/NL believe it encourages competition between countries all trying to raise standards

-Mid 20s for most tests-remain under pressure to improve
How do international companies provide educational opportunities abroad?
Educations increasingly shaped by TNCs, make profit providing services such as writing curriculums, online learning material ect around the world eg EDEXCEL exam board=global corp
(Part of economic globalisation=establishment of global ICT companies eg google)

+Good as these companies are efficient and in a better postion to provide such services rather than Govs in poorer countries

-Edu focuses on developing skills to help access global job market
-New Labour Gov increased spending on edu to achieve this
-NLG aimed for 50% of children to enter higher edu-never achieved
How has migration increased need for multicultural education?
-Edu now more multi-cultural, all schools teach abt the ‘6 world religions’ in EPR, inc in faith schools-Muslim&Jewish
-More recently, schls had to respond to inc in Polish children
What does the increasing cultural globalisation challenge?
The relevance of the National Curriculum, as we live in a more global culture now

3.1990s:Social Inclusion: Race Relations Act, legal duty to promote racial equality, exam results monitored, voluntary Saturday schools for black community
