A
- Education system now competes on a global league table rather than just national competition.
- The sorts of jobs globalisation led to shifts the way the education system prepares you for work.
- Educational policies are now impacted by polices that have proved successful in other parts of the world. Eg. UK taking swedish policies

How has globalisation changed the UK economy?
A
- Manufacturing jobs have been exported to other countries so the UK now depends more on the service sector.
- Old correspondence between the school and the factory is no longer relevant for most pupils.

- 16th in science
- 22nd in reading
- 28th in maths
- Out of 70 countries according to the OECD
- The UK is falling behind higher placed countries like Singapore and Hong Kong.
- Finland is the highest placed european country (4th in science, 5th in reading and 12th in maths).

Problems with taking other countries educational policies.

- Singapore’s policies are very different to european so it’s hard to gauge what policies are appropriate to the UK. - Finnish and Singapore education systems could be similar but they pay teachers more leading to better quality teaching.
