Global Health Technology Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three overlying expected benefits of incorporating technology in to global health strategies?

A
  1. Reduced costs means re-investment in to healthcare
  2. Global Convergence - bringing people closer together who are involved in addressing global health
  3. Health Equity - Implemented in to countries lagging behind can allow catch up or leapfrogging

Q

What are some of the limitations/perils of using technology in global health?

A

Technological Determinism - life unethically determined by tech
Technological Imperative - sometimes simple methods are better (patient>technology)
Privacy & Surveillance
Sustainability: Tech begins and remains a project meaning it requires constant attention and funding
Uneven distribution: Access to technologies not uniform meaning some health systems lag behind.
