A

These institutions have strong links to the most powerful nations who supply the most funding
Global governance threatens to undermine the sovereignty of states and governments, taking away independence

National Governments- Legislate and invest in initiatives, and contribute to international discussions

TNC’s- Adopt new codes of conduct/ warning practices imposed by legislation- socio-economic pressures

International Organisations- Respond to global events and offer advice to national governments

  • GROWTH AND STABILITY
  • Laws and Norms= greater social stability as countries are more informed as to how other countries will react to decisions/ agreements
  • WTO= increase economic growth, increase stability through COMMON RULES
  • WHO= combat epidemics eg: 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa= increased social stability

Negatives of Global Governance?

A

REINFORCES INEQUALITIES

  • IMF and World Bank require certain conditions
  • GOV SPENDING CUTS (usually on healthcare)
  • Free Trade Policies and neo-liberal, western ideals

-Economic Groups such as G7= encourage inequalities

-Members of Security Institutions eg: UN SECURITY COUNCIL, have a right to VETO
resolutions eg: China and Russia vetoed many decisions within the 2016 SYRIAN CIVIL WAR
