The internet has many benefits, such as easy access to information, being able to stay connected. It also empowers people, making them more confident

Shows that younger people are using digital technologies more because they grew up with them
Kirkpatrick (2010) - Influence of social media on movements
Looked at the influence on social movements and protest, how social media made it easier to organise protest. Also found that governments can use the internet for their own purposes too

The “Turkle Effect” looks at how we prioritise ease over real-life, meaning that we no longer develop meaningful connections with people
Chambers (2015) - Tensions between parents and children
Parents are generally wary of new technology, while children are willing to use it. This leads to arguments, with children feeling restricted. There are also concerns around cyberbullying and addiction
Twenge (2018) - iGen: The Smartphone
Twenge looks at the way young people have grown up with smartphones, how this has developed a more cautious and sociallly progressive generation - however believes it has led to stunted careers among other things
