Two Rules Governing the Citizenship by Birth
Jus Sanguinis and Jus Soli

Jus Sanguinis

act of formally adopting a foreigner into the political body of the state and clothing him with the rights and privileges of citizenship

Ways of Acquiring Citizenship by Naturalization
By judgment of the court
By direct act of congress
By administrative proceedings
Ways to voluntarily lose citizenship
- By naturalization in a foreign country;
- By express renunciation of citizenship;
- By subscribing to an oath of allegiance to support the constitution and laws of a foreign nation;
- By rendering service to, or accepting commission in the armed forces of a foreign country (except under certain circumstance)
Ways to lose citizenship involuntarily
- By cancellation of his certificate of naturalization by the court; and
- By having been declared by competent authority, a deserter in the Philippine armed forces in time of war
Duties and Obligations of Citizens

- To allow others to travel freely across our borders especially those in need of shelter or protection
- To share our resources with others
- To protect the earth’s environments and conserve its renewable resources
Why does Global Citizenship Matter

- Global citizenship gives people the tools to counter ignorance and intolerance
- Global citizenship encourages us to recognize our responsibilities towards each other
- Global citizenship is about flexibility and adaptability as well as about a positive image of the future
- Global citizenship acknowledge that we have a power as individuals: OUR CHOICES CAN CREATE CHANGES
