Glaucoma Drugs, Unit III Flashcards
1
Q
Lantaprost
A
Prostaglandin analogue
- 1st line
- Not clear why but facilitates outflow through accessory pathway
2
Q
Brimonidine
A
Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist (alpha-2)
- Both increases outflow, and decreases inflow
- Risk of CNS depression, sleep apnea in children, common problems with irritation
3
Q
Timolol
A
Beta-Blocker-
- 2nd most common medication
- Reduces aqueous humor production, and may also lower blood flow
- Systemic absorption can cause serious parasympathetic-esque side effects
4
Q
Dorzolamide
A
Carbonic Anhydrase inhibitors
- Inhibits carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary epithelium, reduces production of IOP
- Can cause a bitter taste
5
Q
Pilocarpine
A
Cholinomimetics
- Not used much anymore
- Contracts the ciliary muscle, causes dilation, increases outflow
