Structural-Strategic Family Therapy
treatment should initially address excessive drinking. use family mapping, i.d. family strengths, use praise, respect cultural traditions
Bowen Family Therapy
emphasis placed on differentiation of oneself and achievement of an interplay between two counterbalancing life forces - individuality and togetherness. tones down behavior of overresponsible member rather than boosting behavior of underresponsible/codependent member
Behavioral Family Therapy
written behavioral contracts may be effective
Multifamily therapy
treat several families at once
2 types of batterers
- pit bulls - hear rate increases as they become more verbaly aggressive
- cobras - heart rate decreases as they become more verbally aggressive
common couple violence (ccv)
low-level violence that is infrequent and noninjurious
severe abusive violence (sav)
aka IPV. physically injurious, meant to intimidate, largely perpetuated by men against women.
intimate justice theory
up to the abuser to recognize that abuse and accountability are related and thereby make needed changes. in this approach, gender-specific treatment is used often in the form of groups.
