gis presenting data Flashcards
map elements
objects placed on amap layout, such as titles, legends, scale bars, north arrows, images, and charts
neatline
a line used to enclose one or more map elements in a rectangle
North American Datum
combination of speroid and reference point that is used to minimize map distortion in North America
projection
a mathematical transformation that converts spherical units of lattitude and longitude to a planar x-y coordinate system
datum
a combination of an earth ellipsoid and a reference point to reduce mapping discrepancies for a particular region
graticules grid
marks of lattitude and longitude placed on map boundary
measurement grid
a data frame grid that provides measured x-y coordinate system values around the perimeter of the frame
reference grid
a data frame grid that provides lettered and numbered squares on a map for use with an index of the features
chart
graph created in ArcMAp from table data, such as bar chart or pie charts
map extent
range of x-y values of the area being displayed in a map
automatic scaling
fitting the contents of a data frame within a specified rectangle
fixed scale
a constraint applied to a data frame to prevent the scale of the map from being changed in layout mode
fixed extent
a constraint applied to a data frame to prevent changes in scale or extent in layout mode
divisions
the number of sections given to a scale bar
subdivisions
the number of units into which a single division of a scale bar is split, usually appearing on the left end of the scale bar
division units
the units in which a map scale bar is measured and drawn, such as miles or KM
division value
length of one section of a scale bar as given in division units, such as 100km
dynamic labels
labels determined from an attribute and placed on a map automatically each time features are drawn and redrawn
graphic text
text placed on a map layout that is not associated with a feature attribute; can be manipulated by the Drawing tools
annotaion
labels created from map features and stored seperately for detailed editing
reference scales
the scale at which text or symbols appear at their assigned size
