GI Tract Vessels Lab Flashcards
Vasculature to the GI tract
Celiac trunk—foregut
Superior mesenteric—midgut
Inferior mesenteric—hindgut
They’re unpaired.
3 branches of the Celiac trunk
★L Gastric★Splenic ★Common Hepatic
80% of peptic ulcers occur in the?
duodenal bulb/ampulla
65% of ulcers in the duodenum are in the?
posterior wall
Pathway from the stomach to the duodenum
- stomach
- pyloric antrum
- pylorus
- sphincter
- ampulla
Gastroduodenal artery is important because?
It lies behind the posterior wall of the duodenal ampulla- common site of ulcers and can perforate
Sliding hiatal hernia (type 1)
Stomach herniates- too short?
Paraesophageal hernia
part of the fundus herniates
Mixed hernia
Fundus and stomach herniate
Jejunum features
prominent folds (plicae circulares) indicate that this is an area where extensive absorption occurs.
Ileum features
Lymphoid nodules (Peyer’s) Fewer circular folds
Large intestine features
Haustra,Omental appendages,Teniae coli,Large diameter
Marginal artery is important because?
Comes off the IMA- represents an anastomosis between the SMA and IMA; if the aorta or SMA is blocked (or must be clamped), this anastomosis as well as others will compensate.
ASIS
Anterior superior iliac spine
What veins drain into the hepatic portal vein?
Superior mesenteric vein,Splenic vein,
Inferior mesenteric vein
