Getting ready for flight lesson 5 Flashcards

1
Q

short field takeoff

A

flaps 0
use all available runway
add full power while holding brakes
check flight and engine instruments
rotate at 70 kias or POH computed speed
accelerate to and climb at 82 kias
with a positive rate of climb retract the landing gear
when clear of all obstructions or 50’ AGL accelerate to 88kias
at 1000’ AGL pitch for 105 kias and reduce power to 25” MAP and 2500 RPM

Q

short field landing

A

Downwind 100KIAS
before landing checklist complete
abeam the touchdown point gear down, flaps 10
on base flaps 25, airspeed 90 kias
turning final flaps full, airspeed 80 kias
short final gumps checklist, airspeed 72 kias
immediately after touchdown raise the flaps, apply back pressure, and maximum wheel braking

Q

slow flight

A

clearing turns
cowl flaps open
retard throttles to 15”MAP
gear down below 140 KIAS
full flaps below 111 KIAS
propellers high RPM
maintain heading and altitude while reducing airspeed
power as required to maintain minimum controllable airspeed

Recovery
propellers high rpm
throttles full forward
retract flaps to 25
gear up
retract remaining flaps
cowl flaps as required
assume criuse airspeed and power

Q

steep turns

A

clearing turns
power as required, approximately 2300 rpm, 21” manifold pressure
airspeed at 120 kias
roll into 50 bank and continue for 360 of turn

Q

emergency descent

A

Entry
clearing turns
carburetor heat on
throttle idle
props full forward (monitor RPM)
landing gear estend below 140 KIAS
full flaps below 111 kias
bank 30-45
maintain 111 kIAS

Recovery
mixture ritch
add full power
establish the pitch attitude to maintain level attitude
retract flaps to 25
gear up with a positive rate of climb
retract remaining flaps
accelerate to VX or VY
establish a positive rate of climb

Q

Engine failure in flight (above Vmca)

A

directional control above 88kias - maintain
mixture contols - full forward
propeller controls - full forward
throttle controls - full forward
flaps -up
gear - up
inoperative engine - identify and verify
inoperative engine throttle

if there is not enough time or opportunity to troubleshoot
inoperative engine propeller - feather
inoperative engine mixture - idle cut-off
establish bank - 2-3 into operative engine
climb airspeed - 88 kias
zero side slip - establish

Q

Power on Stall

A

Clearing turns
Retard Throttle to 15”MAP
cowl flaps open
propeller high RPM
establish 75 kts
add 65% power 20”MAP
increase backpressure until stall
initiate recovery at first indication of a stall
Recovery
lower AOA
pitch for Vy or Vx
propellers high pitch
Throttle full forward

Q

Power off Stall

A

Clearing Turns
Retard Throttle to 15”MAP
gear down below 140
flaps full down before 111
propellers high RPM
stabilize at 80 knots
pitch for 20 +/- 5 while maintaining directional control
recover at first indication of stall
Revocery
lower AOA
pitch for Vy or Vx
propellers high rpm
throttle full forward
1 notch of flaps out

Q

Vmc Demostration

A

clearing turns
retard throttles to 15” MAP
cowl flaps open on operative engine, closed on inoperative engine
landing gear retracted
flaps up
mixture full Irish
propellers high RPM
throttle to idle on one engine, at approximately 90kts
throttle full forward on remaining engine
Entry
slowly reduce airspeed while maintaining directional control with rudder and airloeron
establish a bank angle not to exceed 5
if simulating loss of control - maintain directional control with only rudder
at the first indication of loss of directional control, reaching Vmc, or first indication of a stall initiate the recovery
Recovery
reduce the angle of attack by lowering the nose and simultaneously reducing power on the operating engine to regain directional control ad airspeed
pitch to maintain Vyse
announce maneuver complete
