What are risk factors for gestational dm?

A
  1. BMI >30 kg/m2
  2. Previous macrosomic baby weighing 4.5 kg or more
  3. Previous GDM
  4. Family history of diabetes (first degree relative)
  5. Minority ethnic origin with high prevalence of diabetes (South Asian, black
    Caribbean, Middle Eastern).
    NICE recommend that women with any of the above risk factors be offered
    OGTT at 24-28 weeks of gestation.

How to diagnose GDM?

A

75 g OGTT is recommended:
• fasting venous plasma glucose ≥5.1mmol/L or
• two hours after OGTT ≥8.5 mmol/L
• fasting venous plasma glucose ≥5.1mmol/L or
• two hours after OGTT ≥8.5 mmol/L
