Qualitatswein - typically dry red and white wines, though can range from dry to medium sweet.
Pradikatswein - largely white wines - indicates the style

What are the characteristics of a Kabinett Reisling?
light body, high acidity. green apple, citrus fruit balanced with residual sweetness.
What does spatlese mean? Describe how a Spatlese Reisling would differ from a Kabinett Reisling.
Late Harvest. wines will have more concentrated flavors, more body than a kabinett reisling. Usually no green apple notes, but instead more citrus aromas and a hint of stone fruit (peach and apricot). Higher ABV than Kabinet

Wine made from individually selected extra ripe bunches of grapes. Richer and riper than Spatlese.
What are Beerenauslese (BA) wines ?
rare expensive sweet wines that have been made from hand selected grapes that have been enhanced by the effects of botrytis.
What is eiswein?
wine made from grapes that have been left on the vine until the weather is cold enough to freeze them
What is Trockenbeerenauslese(TBA) wine?
sweet wine produced in minute quanitites made from individual grapes that have undergone botrytis to the degree that the grapes have shrivelled to tiny raisins.
What is the PGI (g.g.A) label in Germany?
landwein. Landwein has a higher must weight than GI Deutsche Wein.
What is the highest Pradikatswein category that can be dry?
Auslese.
What is Trocken and Halbtrocken?
Dry and off dry.
What is VDP?
A prestigious association of the best producers in Germany with their own labelling terminology.
