the austro prussian was of 1866 was ended by the treaty of prauge in august of that same year. this treaty created a north german confederation of states under prussian control which excluded austria

bold step towards unification, nationalisic feeling continued to grow under the might of prussia with a large number of states effectivly under prussian rule. prussian superiority over its biggest competitor for power was secured

however, under the treaty, bismark was delibritly leniant on austria, paving the way for his plan to completly unify the german states when the time was right.
