painful swallowing,difficultly initiation swallowing (upper problem) , due to muscoal injury,
what does dysphagia mean?
fullness feeling, due to failure of moving bolus, , food sticks after walling initaiton (lower problem)
Some causes of esphageal dysphagia?
anatomical-ring/web, cancer, nueromusclar-esphageal disease
What do you see on studies of achalasia?
achalasia-solids and liquids, see birds beak
manometry- no relaxation of the LES

endoscopy/biopsy

ambulatory pH monitoring
What are lifestyle choices that can change GERD?
no food 3 hours before bed, stop smoking, modifty diet, OTC rx PRN
What are some drugs that decrease LES pressure?
theophylline, anticholingeric, CCB. nitriates
What are some meds that injure mucosa
TETRACYCLINE, quinidine, ASA/NSAIDS!, k tabletes, FE salts
TX of GERD?
PPI-“PRazoles”, H2 blockers-“tidine”
Barretts esophagus can lead to?
