Nursing Interventions
- Instruct client to avoid the following: Coffee, Carbonated beverages, Cigarette smoking, chocolate, Fried or fatty foods, Alcoholic beverages, Peppermint
- Instruct to eat low fat, high fiber, high protein
- Instruct to avoid eating and drinking 2hours before bedtime, and wearing tight clothes (constrict stomach)
- Instruct to elevate head of bed 6-8 inch blocks
- Avoid use of anticholinergics, NSAIDs, and other meds containing acetylsalicylic acid
- Instruct client regarding prescribed meds, such as antacids, H2 receptor antagonists, or PPI
- Instruct client regarding the administration of prokinetic medications if prescribed

- Stay upright (semi fowlers) for 2 hours after meals
- Elevate HOB on 6-8 inches blocks often
6.Stop smoking - Avoid tight clothing and bending
- Avoid very hot, very cold foods
- Avoid salicylates (aspirin), phenylbutazone (NSAID) (increased HCl secretion)
