Compass Rose
A circle showing the principle (main) directions printed on a map or chart.
Lines of longitude
Imaginary line that measures a location’s distance east or west of the prime meridian
Lines of Latitude
imaginary line that measures a location’s distance north or south of the equator

The ratio of a distance on the map to the corresponding distance on the ground
Channel
A length of water wider than a straight, joining 2 larger areas of water, especially two seas
Canal
An artificial water way constructed to allow the boats or ships inland
Gulf
A deep inlet of sea almost surrounded by land

peninsula
a piece of land almost surrounded by water or projecting out into a body of water
bay
a body of water partially surrounded by land usually smaller and less enclosed than a gulf
