Geometery Flashcards
Center
You name a circle by its center. O by the circle= circle o
Radius
A segment from a point on the circle to the circle’s center (ex. RO and TO)
If two circles have the same radius then…
they are congruent
If two or more coplanar circles share the same center the,
they are concentric circles
Chord
A segment whose endpoints lie on the circe
Diameter
A chord that goes through the center of the circle
Secant
A line that intersects a circle at two points (EF, DC, AB)
Tangent
A line or segment that intersects a circle at exactly one point
Arc of a circle
Two points on the circle (called endpoints) and the continuous/ unbroken part of the circle between the two points.
3 types of Arcs:
Semicircles, minor Arcs, major Arcs
Semicircle
Arc of a circle whose endpoints are the endpoints of a diameter. The arc from point A to point D is a semicircle. MEASURE = 180
Minor Arc
Arc of a circle that is less than a semicircle of the circle. The measure of a minor Arc is LESS THAN 180
Major Arc
An arc of a circle than is greater than a semicircle of the circle. T
