What is a settlement?
A settlement is a place where people can live.
What is a farm?
A farm is a place with land that people use to grow crops and keep animals
What are crops?
Crops are the plants farms grow to eat or sell to other people e.g. mielies
What is a village?
A village is a small settlement. Villages are places where a few houses and other buildings as well as land for growing crops and keeping animals.
What is a town?
A town is a settlement that is bigger than a village but smaller than a city. Towns are places houses, shops and offices.
What is a city?
A city is a settlement that is much bigger than a town. Cities are places with many houses, shops and offices.
What is farming?
Farming is work that involves growing crops and taking care of animals
What are services?
Services is work that people do that helps others.
What types of jobs do people do in farms and villages?
Weeding, milking cows, hurding
What types of jobs do people do in towns and cities?
Factory workers, nurses & doctors, petrol station attendants, bank tellers

What is tar?
Tar is sticky black mixture used to make roads.
What is gravel?
Gravel is small loose stones.
What is a dirt road?
A dirt road is a road made with gravel and sand
What is a footpath?
A footpath is a path for people and animals to use. Footpaths are smaller than roads. Animals & bicycles sometimes use footpaths
