what is a food collector
someone who collects and eat food growing in the wild

something that can make you very ill when you eat or drink it

What are 3 ways people can get the food they need?
- grow plants & keep animals
- buy the food they need
- collect food in a natural way (food collectors)
Describe how food collectors get their food
They catch fish & hunt animals
They find & eat plants growing in the wild - they know what is good to eat and what is poisonous. Plants like:
- pick fruits
- pick berries
- pick musrooms
- dig up rooms
how do subsistence farmers get the things they need that they cannot grow or make themselves?
the BUY them using money they earn from selling some of the food they have grown AND/OR
EXCHANGE food they have too much of with their neighbours
What is mono-cropping?
what a farmer only plants one crop
Why is mono-cropping bad for the soil?
because the same plants keep taking the same nutrients from the soil all the time AND
insects and diseases can spread easily so chemical pesticides are needed
In African tradition, what does a person’s wealth depend on?
How many cows he owns
What is a feedlot system?
this is when commercials farmers do not let their cattle graze in open land. Instead cattle are kept in a small fenced area call a feedlot, and given food to fatten them up quickly before they are sent to be slaughtered in abattoirs
