Geography- Fieldwork Flashcards
What is the physical enquiry title?
Investigate the changes to the characteristics of the sand dunes at Knoll Beach, Studland Bay.
What is the human enquiry title?
Investigate climate change mitigation in Purbeck.
State the physical enquiry hypothesis
No change to the shape of, and vegetation on, the sand dunes.
State the human enquiry hypothesis
The local community actively support the switch to renewable energy.
What are the adaptations of marram grass
Adapted to live in the fore and yellow dunes by having long roots. These help by keeping the plant firmly in the ground, even in strong winds
How did you present your physical fieldwork findings? (detailed)
- By using a transect graph to show the dunes shape. - A protractor, pencil + ruler were used.
—> X axis showed distance, Y axis showed height - Angle data was plotted at every 5 meters along the transect .
—> Protractor put at the intersection for 0meters, marked the gradient angle and plotted at 5m. - Repeat process for all data
- To show the vegetation findings we overlaid a dot distribution to show the vegetation species at every 5 meter + percentage coverage.
How was our physical fieldwork presented?
- Transect data as a sand dune profile
- Vegetation + pH data with dot dispersion graph
What is the physical fieldwork conclusion and reasons?
Inconclusive to some extent but proven with vegetation data
- Not a very significant change in shape/height of the sand dunes
- Evidence of dune damage- no embryo dune- due to tourism and wind
- Significant change to the % coverage of vegetation
- Limited variation of vegetation species diversity
