The largest landforms on Earth
What are oceans?
The largest bodies of water on Earth.
What is a map?
A drawing of a real place.
What is a globe?
A round model of the Earth.
What is a compass rose?
A symbol that shows the directions on a map.
What are the cardinal directions?
North south east and west
What are the intermediate directions?
Northeast,northwest, southeast, southwest
What is the map key?
The part of a map that tells you what the symbol stands for
What is a symbol?
A picture on a map that stands for something real
What is a border?
A line on a map showing the edge of a city, state or country
What is a title?
The name of a map
What are latitude lines?
The imaginary lines that go from east to west
What are longitude lines?
The imaginary lines that run North to South around the Earth. All longitude lines meet at the North and South Pole
What is the equator?
The latitude line that goes around the middle of the Earth

The point on Earth that is the furthest north
South pole
The point on the Earth that is furthest south
Landforms
Physical features found on the Earth
Island
Land surrounded by water on all sides.
Mountains
Tall landforms with steep sides and peaks
Plateau
Land that is high like a mountain but with a flat top
Plains
Low, flat, grassy land
Valley
Low land found between mountains or hills
Volcano
Land that is high like a mountain with an opening at the top
Isthmus
Narrow piece of land that connects two larger pieces of land
Strait
Narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water
Peninsula
Land surrounded by water on three sides
