Genomics and Transgenes Flashcards
Organisms vary in the degree to which certain degenerate codons are used, can affect transgene expression
Codon Bias
Transgenes that can be used to identify regulatory sequences by carrying transcriptional or translation fusion to a reporter gene
Transgene Reporter Assays
Attempts to understand the content, organization, function, and evolution of the genetic information contained in whole genomes
Genomics
A sequencing method used in the human genome project in which the chromosomal location of each clone was identified using mapping
Clone (Map-Based) Sequencing
A sequencing method used in the human genome project that went straight to shotgun sequencing without genetic mapping.
Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
A technique for determining the DNA sequence of an organism’s genome by randomly breaking up the genome into many smaller DNA fragments that are sequenced individually. A computer program then looks for overlaps in the DNA sequences and uses them to reassemble the fragments in their correct order
Shotgun Sequencing
The process of attaching biological functions to the DNA sequences, based on experimental evidence (preferably) or computational analysis
Annotation
The process of identifying the location of genes and functional sequences within the genome sequence
Genome Annotation
